She turns 4....
Anikutta,
You,my lil girl is all of four years now! To put it in your words "a very big girl...". This year mama went all out to celebrate your birthday. I made plans month in advance.,the menu and cake was decided weeks in advance and everything went just right and just as planned. I couldnt have done it better. I felt this need to make this birthday special as your 3rd birthday was a low-key affair and this year was important as you are no more a toddler but a pre-schooler.
So on your birthday which was conveniently on a Saturday, you woke up early all excited and happy. You went downstairs and saw all your gifts (which ammamma, buwa and mama wrapped up neatly the previous night) and couldnt wait to open them. Buwa asked you to wait for mama and dada to wake up ,which you did very impatiently. Mama made pancakes and sausage for breakfast which you enjoyed. You opened all your gifts with so much excitement and mama recorded it but soon the recorder stopped working :( Your favorite gift was the princess lip smacker chap-stick which was applied very generously on your lips for the next few days.
Buwa did bhai-teeka for dada the same morning ,following which you did for Neeru. It was the first bhai-teeka for Neeru and I hope you both carry on this tradition every year for as long as you both are alive.Later we headed off to the temple and had lunch there too. You filled yourself with the yogurt rice from the temple.Back home we all took a nap and was ready to receive our guests. Sumamma and family,Chechiamma and family and Sunitha aunty were the guests for the evening. Mama had cooked all the food the day before so that I could spend your special day just with you and not in the kitchen.Mama also made a beautiful princess cake for you which as usual was a challenge but it turned out gorgeous. The best cake mama has made so far,if I may say so myself! Chechiamma took you to Ross where you picked your gifts.
Sunday evening you had the party at Gymboree for your friends. You wore your new birthday outfit which everybody loved. You looked just like a princess. Abby,Grace,Sienna,Krish,Emily,Katie,Sanjay,Christi and Teegan joined you at Gymboree. Oh boy! Did you guys have fun or what. It was worth all the money that mama had to shell out to Gymboree (he he he). After an hour of play you guys had pizza, juice and cupcakes. You were showered with more gifts. Mama now has to buy a new house to store your gifts I guess (rolling eyes).
This year was amazing. You started part-time school at Kiddie Country and you took it very well. Mama did shed a few tears on your first day to school but you didnt even bat an eyelash, my lil iron princess. You started proper pre-school at Nativity Catholic School in September. We are told over and again by your teachers as to how smart you are. They do have complaints now and then about your misbehaviors, mainly not following the rules. Well dada interprets this as leadership quality in his lil girl and I'm the least surprised. Dada is your biggest fan and would even take poison if you were to feed him. So no one can convince him that his lil girl does anything wrong or is any less perfect. You guys share a beautiful relation and he is responsible for all the general knowledge you possess. This year he taught you the days of the week, how to read time, how to spell your last name, countries on the map and several such things. He keeps bragging about you day in day out and I hope you live upto all that!
Ah lets talk about you and Neeru. It is a love-hate relation so far and that's how it is with siblings I guess. As soon as we show up at the door everyday evening he will run excitedly to you and not me.He loves pulling your hair and has caused you so much pain and tears. He attempts to call you "thaethi" for chechi and its so adorable to watch him play with you. Your voice,no matter from how far, brings a special alertness in him like a lil puppy. He is very jealous ,which is quite natural at his age, and wont let me seat you in my lap. This annoys you to no end and starts yet another fight. No matter how much he hurts you, you are very nice to him and very rarely retaliates. I wish you both always stay close and be there for each other.
Ammamma was here all year and your bond with her has grown so much. She feeds you while pretend playing to feed all your favorite characters. She colors with you and she is really good at it. You love to color and do puzzles. You are really good with puzzles. You can even do a 50 piece puzzle which is quite amazing for your age. You are still a picky eater but you have started liking rice with meat/fish and yogurt. Mama packs you lunch everyday and its mostly a sandwich. This year we took you to Ocean city,Sesame Place and Williamsburg. You love vacations and staying in hotels.Your vocabulary is just outstanding and you talk like an adult, much to our surprise. You still cry and whine for most things and sneaks into mama and dada's bed early morning.
This year mama was surprised at several occasions when I saw such a strong reflection of myself in you. You act very indifferent when you are really upset about something big. But you would cry for the most silliest of things. You are not very good at expressing love and if someone does so you find it awkward. So hugs and kisses are tough to get from you, especially for people whom you dont see daily. You have lot of similarities with dada too, especially your laid-back approach to most things and a dare-devil attitude when it comes to adventure parks and such.
At times I miss the toddler from last year and wish you still talked in your baby language. But I'm also enjoying watching you blossoming into a little girl. You have been such a great help for mama with lots of things around the house. You are an eager helper always willing to run upstairs and fetch something or to keep an eye on Neeru when mama has to go away for few minutes. You are truly the light of our life. Mama and dada wishes that you are showered with all the happiness, peace, good health and love that life can offer to you.
Love,hugs and kisses,
Mama
