6 - Now thats more than a handful!

6 is a big number especially when it marks the number of years you have been a mother. Yes my motherhood has turned 6 and so did my first born. When did she grow up so fast. In a blink I think. Sometime in the last year I heard the phrase "I know,I know mama" several times from my baby and I knew she is not my baby anymore. I'm very proud of her growth but the mother in me wants to cling on to the pure innocent baby in her. She is smart, witty, quick to learn and ahead of her peers and all that makes us proud but I can slowly see the world penetrating into her and the baby fading away. Well that's how it is supposed to be, I guess.

Major achievement this year was starting official education. White Oaks is a great school and she loves it. The bus ride is a source of major excitement. She still struggles with making the right friends.  Kumon has come a long way. She is on honor roll and reading like a pro. We dont need to push her too much to get the homework done. It is such a joy to see her read without any help and that too at such a fast pace. Emotionally also she has come a long way. The meltdowns and tantrums have become a thing of the past. (Thank God!). But then enters another big problem - sibling rivalry!

More than rivalry it is just sibling squabbles. The two can pick up a fight at the drop of a hat. It drives us insane. Then there are peaceful times too when they both can get along well and play for hours. Those days are blessings. But brother and sister are inseparable and I love to watch how they are growing together so beautifully. The brother worships his sister (lets forget all the teasing for a bit now) and the sister dotes on her brother (lets put aside the tell-tailing for a bit). I'm sure they will grow up to be the best of buddies.

Food is still my little girl's biggest enemy. Drinking milk has gotten a lot easier but still she is very picky about so many food items. She can still fit very well into a 4T except that it will be a wee bit short. That makes me sad :( . Maybe its a good thing once you reach your 20s but now I want her to grow. Only part that has grown this year is her hair. She wants it to grow longer,so ,much care is being taken to ensure that. Oh boy, does she love makeup or what? A few kids makeup sets has been acquired as gifts and used extensively and sparingly . :)

My best part of this last year is how she writes little notes for me. They either say "I love you mama", or it is an apology or just a "Thank you". But they are so adorable. She is getting much better at giving hugs ,kisses and improptu "I love yous". She is still mostly a "dada's girl" but she has grown a lot more attached to me this last year (Thank God for my work from home option).

We had to stop piano lessons due to the teacher's schedule conflicts. TKD and swimming has progressed much. India trip was a lot of fun for her. She loved the wedding and it was her first Indian wedding. She said the best part was putting mehendi :). Ammamma being away was not a happy thing but skype and other communication channels has kept her closer.

Birthday celebration this year was pretty low-key. A new friend (Emerson) and few old friends (Sienna,Ammu and Unni) went for a movie (Big Hero 6) and later for icecream. Mama made goody bags for all classmates (with Frozen cake pops). At home we had a small party just for family and of course mama made a Elsa/Anna cake which came out beautiful (if I may say so myself :))

I'm watching you grow so beautifully and relishing every moment. The coming years are going to be tougher and harder for a girl I know but mama and dada will be right here watching you and loving you. All our love and blessings are with you always ,our dear Princess!

-Mama
