Avni's second year

My dearest Anikutta...

So here is your 2nd birthday and mama is way behind in writing the birthday letter for you...What can I say about your second year. Its been a wonderful year so far.I watched with so much awe and happiness the way you bloomed into this beautiful 2 yr old...They say its "terrible two" so I already have my fingers crossed for next year. The year didnt start quite well as the first three months crawled by with a sinus infection and three ear infections in a row.You gave mama several sleepless nights and worried days.Dada also had his share (see I dont want him to feel left out!).

And then in March you burned your hand by touching the hot stove. It was mama's mistake putting you near the stove.I will never forgive myself for that.I have never gone through so much agony in my life like I did when that happened.Only good thing was I lost 6lbs that month, from all that stress and hurt. You were a trooper and came out of it just fine with no scars. But mama and dada are scarred for life from that incident.

By spring you came out of all the illnesses and started to bloom into this chirpy, happy little bundle of sweetness whom mama wanted to eat up!You discovered the joy in being outdoors and insisted going out to play on the swing everyday we got home from daycare. You loved to go for strolls on your stroller, usually accompanied by your favorite peeps- Unni, ammu chechi ,and chechi.

It was lovely to watch your face glow everytime we mentioned about going out which you referred to as "thaathu".Later on you clearly said "go out".Your vocabulary exploded this year. You shocked mama and dada everyday with new words and even forming sentences. You made us so proud by doing puzzles on your own and by pretending to read books. You could easily identify things by pictures but you struggled with colors. You loved to dance ,to the extend that you would dance on the side walk when you heard passing by cars play music loudly. That was quite the sight! LOL!

You could tell everyone by their name. The best was the way you said mama's name - shannini...I loved the way you said it!The only person you are scared of is Unni...You and him are like Tom and Jerry. It was fun watching you both fight ,mainly Unni pushing you or grabbing your hair and you screaming your head off and running. Now and then you too pushed and punched him...Towards the end of the 2nd year you started talking non-stop.It was so much fun to watch you talk ,trying hard to express so much but not being able to find words and you used gestures and facial expressions to help out.It was so entertaining.

We celebrated your 2nd b'day very grandly.Mama made 3 cakes for you.On 17th I took the day off, went shopping with you for your b'day dress,we surprised dada at his office and went for lunch with him, then we went to your daycare to celebrate with your buddies along with pizza and cake, went to the temple, and finally we cut another cake in the evening at home with chechiamma, unni and ammu chechi. The following Saturday we had a party in a hall, catered food from Bhayya's restaurant, had many people invited and it was fun.

Mama had concerns about your picky eating but the 2 year checkup went well and your doc was happy with your progress. You favorite food items were still fruits and new items were soup, idili (you said iddi) and chicken. You always asked for candy but never ate them that much. You slowly started eating rice.Veggies arent a favorite yet.

This year you traveled with mama and dada to Europe. Wes stayed few days with dada's uncle and family in Netherlands. We visited France,Germany,Netherlands and Switzerland. You were so co-operative and easy to travel with.

I cant wait to see what the 3rd year has in store.Love you my dear.Ummahhhh

With lots of love,
Mama
